Slowcooker pulled beef/pork

So working retail eats your soul in the month of December, did you know that?  I haven't done much of anything except for move and I'm not even done with that.  But I thought I'd give you a short update.  I just bought a new crock pot.  One of my very own!  So I thought I'd share my first recipe with all of you:

What you'll need:
3.5 - 4 qt slow cooker
1 2lb pork rump roast or beef roast I used a "tender roast" basically it was a small beef roast with more fat.
1 1/2 C rootbeer (12oz)
1Tbs garlic salt  (approx I just shook some out and rubbed it in lol)
1 12oz bottle of bbq sauce
hamburger buns or keizer rolls

What to do:

In your slow cooker place your meat of choice sprinkle on the garlic salt and massage it in a little.  Pour on your rootbeer and turn the slow cooker on high and let the meat cook in the soda for 5-7 hrs on high depending on how your cooker heats.  When the meat is tender and shreds with a fork drain the rootbeer and add the bottle of bbq and let cook on low for another hour.  Serve on your rolls (I toast mine a little) and enjoy!

Maybe I'll post a picture later if I don't forget =)

A Note About Pie Crust

Dear pre-made pie crust.
I hate you.  You melted and fell apart in my oven causing a tiny fire.  I'm pretty sure I got some of the salt on the corner of my apple pie when I was putting said fire out (I'm sorry to whoever gets that corner).  You still puffed up even when I used pie weights when I made my pumpkin pies, and my pretty crimped edges on all of my pies fell down.  I hate you pre-made pie crust, we are not friends.

Julia Child, I will never stray from your crust recipe again.  In all the years I have used it it has never failed me, never melted, never caused a fire.  I apologize for every going the "easy" route.

Oh and have a happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Three of the ugliest pies I've ever made (the apple pie is the one that melted and caught the oven on fire):

Costume.... late late late sorry~

Okay so a few months ago a very close friend and I were talking about her halowe'en costume and she mentioned that she wanted to be Harley Quinn from Batman, but not just regular Harley Quinn, but the one from Arkham Asylum.  She mentioned that she needed an underbust corset and couldn't find any that would fit properly that was cost effective (underbusts purchased online ranging upwards of $80) so I offered to lend my sewing skills.  we drew up a pattern and experimented with some scraps I had laying around and then hacked at it.  We did learn a few things.... like don't use a sewing machine that likes to be bi-polar, and don't wait until the last second to make the costume, we were up until later than 2am multiple nights in a row.  And Orange juice bottles make awesome boning material!  But the end result was pretty sweet.  I think I actually want to make a poison ivy costume for myself now (but not Arkham Asylum I can't pull off something that skimpy) and we can run around in "Gothams Best" being complete nerds.  but I can only take credit for the underbust she did piece together the rest, and the details really do help!

It's all in the mix!

Okay so I lied when I said my next post was going to be on a felting project that I'm working on (still in progress by the way).  I got the itch to make chex mix.  Now I know it's not the most exciting thing on earth, but boy is it delicious and it makes my house smell good.  So I guess it's picture time!

I'd post the recipe... but I do believe all rights are reserved by General Mills.  So you can find the recipe on any of their chex(c) cereal boxes.

Hey there!

Hey there everyone, or maybe I should say anyone?  I just thought I would stop in and introduce myself.  I'm Kayla, this little blog is a place where I thought I'd publish the little crafts, baking, and whatever else I decide to create.  So expect a post soon with something yummy, or warm and cozy.  I'm felting an old sweater right now, we'll see how it turns out and once I'm done with whatever I decide to do with it I'll be sure to share it!

So until next time, everyone enjoy yourself!
